Sample Chapter 3

The Fading Moral Line

It might be that the Supreme is letting us throw away our moral principles for the wrong moral route in order to nail us. And some people, on reading this, might argue that if that’s the case let's continue trotting along this treacherous route; for it will lead us to our maker. But the question is, at what cost do we have to take this route? Must almost everyone on earth perish before we surrender to our creator? Is that what we do with our own family members when faced with a family crisis!

Look at the way life is these days. The good and bad, in terms of ethical moral principles, is getting more and more relative these days. One can’t tell if it's man's boredom with his “humdrum existence,” or if it's an erosion of his cerebral cortex. Or whether it's the emergence of personal philosophies or moral codes! All we have is a continual shifting of the moral line, and making life very confusing; if not alarming.

It's always been viewed that the cleverer a man is, the better it might be for him while dealing with others. But it might also hold that the cleverer he is, the more danger he is to himself; when one thinks deeply about it. When you sit and observe around you, you begin to admire the simple brains of other animals like that of the rooster. Make no mistake! Its life is pretty complex; even with those two concerns mentioned earlier. Perhaps it really is true that less is more! But it does point us in the right direction that we need to consider.

Just last August, I read an article in the day's tabloid, in my country, about a man on trial for having “sex” with a hen. Forget that the man has three beautiful wives to alternate on. Or the fact that the chicken is his and only has chicken rights; meaning it can be slaughtered anytime, this side of the planet. But having "sex!" That's grossly overboard! In the same paper, some man just gave birth to a healthy baby daughter in some first world country; courtesy of a sex change some years back.

On cable TV (Television) recently, a family consisting of a man, wife and kids went through a similar procedure as the one above and now has two gay male parents. If “attention” is a word often used where our creator resides—if one really exists—then, of late, it must have become one of the most frequently used keywords.

These are just a few mild cases. If one casts the net more widely, many more extreme examples soon surface like incest, pedophilia, and some other new ways of life I dare not mention. We have the Garridos taking over the Austrian as the latest sex pests. And I bet some other weirdo will soon take over.

Our creator—assuming that he exists—must know that two hundred thousand bees can agree and work on one common goal using one common law, so he might have made them lower than man to see how smart man really is. I mean, man fools chicken that he has their best interests at heart! The chicken might be fooling something else; which could, in turn, also be fooling its own victims. But who said the process starts with man! Man could also be a victim of something else too. Why not?

Many people, when formally employed, are given a personnel manual which has the company's credo, objectives etc. But as time goes by they soon discover there are other silent, sometimes even conflicting, underhand rules that matter most. Some people call it territorial excesses or corporate slayings. Some blame it on stochastic resonance in the workplace, while some categorize it under “occupational hazard.” It arises when one tries to stick to the straight and narrow and as a result suffers the wrath of covetous colleagues. At this juncture, I’m thinking of some “alert scale in heaven” or where our creator resides. It must be nearing the “red level” as you read this. That is if such a place really exists.

One can be the darling of the company president and that, in itself, might pit him against his immediate supervisor who might see him as a threat to his very own ambition or livelihood. Little wonder then, that someone in the Bible said, “Woe unto you if your son is king.” It can get pretty confusing and vicious, especially for a new recruit; fresh from campus. They soon find themselves in unfamiliar territory with no daddy or mommy to help out. Circumstances force some of them to compromise their morals just to survive. If it's a lady, she is sometimes forced to sleep her way to survive; though some actually use this strategy to get through the doors in the first place. The latter simply can't wait to have it all, through good-old-fashioned hard-work! So they try and ensnare the boss with their “trappers” one way or another. And when they make it to the top, they stand proud and look down on those who are struggling to go up the right way. It matters not that they used warped means and need to revere others; especially those whose principles can't be compromised. Those who have a moral will and conviction greater than theirs! It doesn't matter that they don't have the sense not to cut themselves in order to enjoy a barbeque. All I can say, is if a Supreme Being exists, we must all be lead actors in this absurd comedy. It must be one of those funny types that generate tears too.

I was moved, sometime back, by a letter by one Richard Jones from Nishio city in Japan, which was printed in Newsweek Magazine; February 17th, 2003 edition. Richard was living and working in a Japanese company at the time and was commenting on an article printed in a previous edition of the magazine (“Healing a Successful Society,” November 18, 2002). He noted a very pertinent issue that seems to be endemic all over the world; the issue of habitual corruption and how its hides behind blind obedience to authority. He wrote of status being conferred by age and not achievement, by pedigree and not by performance. The article in question relates to disillusioned workers forced to compromise on their moral grounds, so as to advance in their respective companies as noted by Jones when he said that advancement in many work places was via sycophantic alliances to those in power. He concluded that the result of adhering to such a system was the stagnation and disenchantment that it engenders.

Many people have to get to the top by all means; even if it means giving morals a backseat. Whether through sex or murder, it matters not. After-all, most corporate movers, who've made it through the adulterous or murderous route, still earn respect when they get to the top. There is this belief that their deeds somehow get white-washed away by their success. Many of us fail to see the folly in the midst of all this?

So with the possibility of a set up by the Supreme Being, all that might remain is to see if we will be jolted to respond correctly. Will man actually prove that when left to live on his own free-will, he eventually comes back to his master? Could some Superior Being or creature be using this human weakness to nail man? Could the fading moral line, be one of his instruments? Could some being be crested on this wave; hoping to get us cornered? These are some of the key questions that I harbor and now there's now a way to find out; performing "The Grand Counter Test."
