The Sea of Change.
I’m glad Copenhagen did happen; though I hoped produced more credible results in terns of reversing the negative effects of climate change in the near future. But what I pray for most is the continuation of the unity that climate change has brought about.
You have to admit it that we have succumbed to the adage that adversity makes strange bed fellows. It seems to work for every creature on earth like wildebeests, or the wild dogs of Africa etc. They must have differences too but when it comes to hunting, or surviving the dry spell, they surely work together as a team.
But wouldn’t it better turn out if we united before the adverse events and avoided them in the first place. It’s all about getting smarter and working as a team, you know! And that, I must say we still seem poor at understanding. In as much as we work as team in our families, social groups or even at our work places, we must appreciate that the world is becoming a global village if it hasn’t already. For example, the fiber optic lines under the sea are so expensive to install and do cut across international sea lines. If one country, along the way, decided to sabotage that cable in the future, then many companies and countries will be greatly affected. It is like the river Nile which happens to be so sensitive to the Egyptian economy. It is so much so that Egypt blatantly declared war on any country that carries out activities along the Nile that adversely affects the flow of that river to Egypt.
This issue is so prickly that a treaty signed by the British, during the colonial days, is yet to be updated despite complaints over the use of the water by countries surrounding the source of the Nile. Due to continuous Global integration, many more similar treaties are being made yearly. And with the global recession of 2008-2009 spanning across global economies, it is not difficult to understand the hows and whys. So doubt not that we need to get smarter and work as a team on certain major issues like climate change even if we differ greatly on our objectives. And this depends on our tolerance to our different ideologies. It starts from there, then spreads like a cancer. At the moment religion is one major cause of our differences. That’s why I knocked my brains about and come up with the book "The End.” Now its up to you to get out of your various comfort zones created by years and years of religious hammering and embrace global partnerships and harmony.
On my part, I expect great opposition to my ideas. But the truth of the matter is that a good idea ought to always lead to a better idea and it eventually does with time.
